Enter this giveaway for a chance to win an eBook copy (Kindle version) of Because I Said So: Life in the Mom Zone by Annie Oeth.

Because I Said So: Life in the Mom Zone by Annie Oeth
Non Fiction, Humor, Parenting
Release Date: April 2014

“But whyyyy?”

“Because I said so.”

It’s the answer that rolls off the tongues of mamas from all over. In Because I Said So, veteran mama Annie Oeth tells of the worries, laughter and sheer terror of being a mother. Trips to the emergency room, college graduations and the dangerous combination of teenagers and fireworks are all fair game in this romp through southern motherhood. Spilling the (jelly)beans on Easter egg hunts, Santa Claus and frogs in mailboxes, Annie Oeth writes of life, love and raising children while hanging on to her sense of humor.

From stories of laughter to tales of tears shed, she remembers her own growing-up years in small-town Mississippi, her parents’ 44-year romance and her own children’s travels on their way to adulthood, crafting stories that will touch hearts and funny bones.

Anyone who’s ever rocked a baby, worried over a teenager or seen family game night degenerate into a knock-down, drag-out can relate to these life lessons, straight from The Mom Zone.

Mamas are tender-hearted, but don’t mistake their kindness for an absence of backbone. In these stories, the love, strength, humor and super powers of mothers are hailed for the wonders that they are. Whether you’re a mama to sons who have an affection for reptiles and bottle rockets or a daughter who thinks you’re wrong just when you’ve figured out your own mother was right, you’ll love yourself, your kids and your life more after this read.

“Why?”
“Because I Said So.”
About the Author:
A lifelong Mississippian, Annie Oeth is a graduate of Mississippi University for Women. She currently works as a features editor for The Clarion-Ledger, the state’s largest daily newspaper. WW Giveaway: The Mystery of Moutai by G.X. Chen
The Mystery of Moutai by G.X. Chen
Mystery
Release Date: April 2014
Kindle version | Paperback

A teenager returns home from school to find a gruesome scene: the apartment he shares with his mother, Shao Mei, in Boston’s Chinatown has been ransacked and she is dead. There is a bottle of Moutai—the most exotic and expensive Chinese liquor—left at the scene and traces of rat poison in one of the two shot glasses on the kitchen counter. This was evidently a homicide, but who could possibly be the killer?

Ann Lee and Fang Chen, close friends of the victim, team up with the Boston police to solve this mystifying crime: why would anyone want to murder a harmless middle-aged woman, one who worked as an unassuming mailroom clerk, with no money, no connections, and presumably, no enemies?

Realizing that important clues behind the motive may be buried deep in the victim’s past, they travel to Beijing, where Shao Mei spent more than fifty years of her life. While there, surrounded by the antiquities of China’s rich and complex history, they stumble unwittingly into a cobweb of mystery and danger. Fearing for their lives but determined to press on, they end up unearthing a scandal more deceptive and far-reaching than either could have imagined.

Disclosure: The three main characters and the victim also appeared in The Mystery of Revenge by G.X. Chen.

Let's all welcome Simi K. Rao, author of contemporary romance novel, An Incurable Insanity, here at My Book and My Coffee. She's prepared a rather helpful guest post for us. Check it out!

Don't forget to enter the giveaway below. :)

************

Hmm..let’s see.

1. READ: Yes, reading is a must for any writer. I fell in love with books at a very young age, thanks to my father. My first book was ‘Black Beauty’ by Anna Sewell. The story of the beautiful black horse touched an emotional cord and continues to reside in my heart as do many others. Reading a lot and widely, helps open up the mind and expand the possibilities.

2. Write because you love to: Don’t write if you’d rather spend the time watching TV or doing something else. Write because you want to, because you love to and write from the heart. Be sincere--it shows.

“There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.” --Ernest Hemingway

3. Develop your own writing voice: Though there may be several authors you are inspired by, there is no replacement for your own voice. Develop your own unique style and stick to it. Often I will buy a book not because I like the plot summary but because I love the way a particular author writes.

4. Don’t edit a lot; let it flow.

5. Try not to write about what you don’t know without adequate research: If you do, then be prepared for the expert comments.

6. Write frequently: Can’t stress this enough. Make it a habit. Write something, anything, but write everyday.

Daughter of Sherwood by Laura Strickland
Historical Romance
Publisher: The Wild Rose Press
Release Date (Actual): November 1, 2013
Raised as a scullery maid in Nottingham Castle, Wren has no idea she is the daughter of the legendary Robin Hood. When she is forced to defend herself against the unwanted advances of an influential man, she flees the castle and finds refuge in Sherwood Forest. It is then she learns a powerful secret: she has a destiny as a guardian of Sherwood, charged with the responsibility of defending its ancient magic.

Since Robin's death many years before, his supporters have kept his legend alive.  Now one of the three guardians holding the spell has died. With two young men, Sparrow and Martin, Wren must form a new bond strong enough to protect Sherwood and continue her father’s fight.  Drawn equally to Martin’s warrior spirit and Sparrow’s gentle strength, she finds it nearly impossible to choose between duty and love.

Laura takes us on a journey into the world of Robin Hood's daughter, where we experience her struggle to accept her identity and the demands of her father's legacy.  Along with Wren, we learn that what is loved in life can never be lost, and that great love is worth the price paid.  For at last, when Martin is captured and held at Nottingham Castle, the path becomes clear for Wren and she finds the strength to become the woman she was born to be, the Daughter of Sherwood.

I Like Your Form: Confessions of a Personal Trainer by JD Holmes
After graduating from high school and working several dead-end jobs, JD landed a job as a personal trainer at a newly opened gym. It puzzled him just how much money people were willing to spend to train with him despite the fact he was so inexperienced. He then started learning the ropes of the business and carved a niche for himself training well-to-do housewives and successful older women.  As time goes on, he finds that not only can he help with their physical demands, he can also help them out with their erotic ones.

JD starts to fight an internal struggle between making money satisfying his clients and knowing what he is doing is wrong. All it would take is his girlfriend or any one of his clients' spouses to find out about their sultry affairs, and everything could blow up in his face causing him to lose his career. However, it's very difficult to turn away from the attention of many attractive and sexy women.

I Like Your Form is a hilarious and honest collection of stories giving advice for personal trainers and clients. Based on a true story, JD's real-life confessions provide a look at the lesser-known aspects of personal training.

Living in the Dark by Rebekah Campbell

“You don’t normally wear hats, Em,” Eric commented as I met him outside the arcade. My cheeks flushed as I self-consciously pulled the beanie a little farther down my head to hide the bandage.
“Maybe I wanted to surprise you?” It didn’t throw him off the scent as I’d hoped, but he knew I wouldn’t admit what happened.
Eric took a deep breath and raised his eyebrows as we trudged down the street. “So...” He wasn’t going to make it easy for me.
“Who have you got for Registration this year?”
“Oh, Mr. Carter.”
“The Physics teacher?”
“That’s the one. The Bogeyman!” Eric swooped beside me and tried to dig his fingers into my sides.
I smiled as I dodged him and couldn’t help but give him a playful punch. “It wasn’t bad enough that you caught him digging for gold so now he has to put up with your face for the next year?”
Eric’s jaw dropped in mock disgust. “What’s wrong with my face?” His hands pawed at his perfectly chiselled jaw.
“Oh you know, you just have a little something,” I waved my hand in a circle in front of him, “right around here.”
“Your words cut me to the very core, Em.” A wry smile passed over his handsome face, and my stomach clenched in response.
“I’m sure you’ll survive. Maybe you and Mr. Carter could comfort each other?”
“Maybe you’re right. Maybe I’ll tell Mr. Carter about crying myself to sleep at night because you don’t like my face.”
“I didn’t say that.”
A wicked gleam leaped into his brown eyes, and a grin stretched at my cheeks. “So you like my face?”
“I didn’t say that, either.”

HEADACHE Book Trailer

Here's a short chat with the author of HEADACHE: Crystal Marcos

Hi Crystal! First of all, I want to sincerely thank you for taking the time to chat with me. It’s an honor to have you here @ My Book and My Coffee. I have 6 questions to ask you and hope you can answer all of them. :)

Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Thank you so much for having me! I am excited to be chatting with you. I am a Pacific Northwest resident, mom to a 3 year old little girl, and a wife to a loving man. I am the oldest of 5 children. I value family time and love game nights. I enjoy reading and sharing my love of reading with my little girl. I love cooking, baking, and party planning. I am also an award winning children's author.

Did you always want to be a children’s author or a writer for that matter?
I have. My mother saved books and stories from when I was younger. I had a good chuckle reading some of them. I always saw myself writing for children. Recently, I decided to write for young adults. I am currently working on my first YA novel.

I haven’t read Bellyache and Headache yet but I will be reading them soon. From the book descriptions and reviews I found, they both sound so magical and full of lessons that I feel even an adult would love to be reminded of every now and then. What inspired you to create these books?
When I set out to write my first book, I wanted it to be something I would want my own child to read someday. I wanted it to be a book my readers would never forget. A story they would want to tell their friends about. I also kept in mind that many adults, including myself, read children's books. I wanted it to be a magical book everyone would enjoy at any age.

If you have to choose one book to be your favorite, which book will it be? You must be thinking, “Just one?” It’s a tough question, I know. But if you have to and you just have to, which book would you choose as your absolute favorite?
Since we are talking children's books, I would have to say my favorite children's book is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I love the tales of Roald Dahl!

Coffee, hot cocoa or sweet tea?
Hot cocoa, hot cocoa, hot cocoa! If you haven't already noticed with the books I wrote, my favorite children's book choice, and the hot cocoa, I have a soft spot for sweets! I just made Pumpkin White Hot Chocolate. Here is the recipe for anyone else with a sweet tooth!
http://www.goodlifeeats.com/2010/10/pumpkin-white-hot-chocolate.html

I know you like to cook and bake… What’s your favorite thing to bake or cook? And are you willing to share the recipe? Ehem ehem :)
Oh goodness, there are so many things I like to make. I absolutely love trying new recipes and new things. Honestly, I usually find a recipe I like and put my own spin on things. In the kitchen I live by the motto, "A recipe is just a guide." I'll share one of the big winners. They have no idea I didn't slave in the kitchen to make it. It is fairly simple and a recipe for the busy mom. I use reduced fat cream cheese, no one can tell the difference. Also I have used chocolate cake mix and took out the lemon juice and it tastes like Oreo cookie bars!

... and now, for the awesome GIVEAWAY!

There will be 3 winners.

In Need of Therapy by Tracie Banister
Book Description:
Lending a sympathetic ear and dispensing sage words of advice is all part of the job for psychologist Pilar Alvarez, and she’s everything a good therapist should be: warm, compassionate, supportive. She listens, she cares, and she has all the answers, but how’s the woman everyone turns to in their hour of need supposed to cope when her own life starts to fall apart?

While working hard to make a success of her recently-opened practice in trendy South Beach, Pilar must also find time to cater to the demands of her boisterous Cuban family, which includes younger sister Izzy, an unemployed, navel-pierced wild child who can't stay out of trouble, and their mother, a beauty queen turned drama queen who’s equally obsessed with her fading looks and getting Pilar married before it’s “too late.” Although she’d like to oblige her mother and make a permanent love connection, Pilar’s romantic prospects look grim. Her cheating ex, who swears that he’s reformed, is stalking her. A hunky, but strictly off-limits, patient with bad-boy appeal and intimacy issues is making passes. And the sexy shrink in the suite across the hall has a gold band on his left ring finger.

When a series of personal and professional disasters lead Pilar into the arms of one of her unsuitable suitors, she's left shaken, confused, and full of self-doubt. With time running out, she must make sense of her feelings and learn to trust herself again so that she can save her business, her family, and most importantly, her heart.

The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap by Paulette Mahurin
Book Description:
A women's Brokeback Mountain. The year was filled with memorable historical events: the Dreyfus Affair divided France; Booker T. Washington gave his Atlanta address; the United States expanded the effects of the Monroe Doctrine in South America; and Oscar Wilde was tried and convicted for gross indecency under Britain's recently passed law that made sex between males a criminal offense. When news of Wilde's conviction went out over telegraphs worldwide, it threw a small Nevada town into chaos. This is the story of what happened when the lives of its citizens were impacted the Wilde news. It is a chronicle of hatred and prejudice with all its unintended and devastating consequences, and how love and friendship bring strength and healing.
