Let me fangirl for a minute here. To Mr. John Green: Thank you for creating Hazel’s character (and this book, of course). It’s a gem and certainly one of those books that I will most probably remember for the rest of my life. The story is definitely something. I’m now a huge fan of your work, Mr. Green. Thank you.
OKAY? OKAY. So fangirling is done – for now. Let’s proceed with the review.
The story is about Hazel Grace, a 16 year old kid who’s living with stage IV thyroid cancer. She probably thought that her life will go on like this: house – support group – house – school – house. It’s not the best routine, as you can see. But her routine sure did change shortly after meeting Augustus Waters.
The story is very well-written. The plot twists are definitely surprising – I didn’t expect certain things to turn out the way they did. I love that the author has a way to make his readers really focus on the story and realize what's really happening. And while I realize that the story may not end well for some of the characters, still as a reader, I continued to read and read. It felt like Hazel was beside me, telling her story. I wanted to know what will happen next. That’s brilliant writing, I just have to say.

One of my favourite scenes in this book is when one of the characters decided to (fresh) egg someone's car. I felt as if I was beside Hazel at that time, nervous as well. Another one is when Hazel was reading the four text messages from Augustus; he was asking about the ending of the book, An Imperial Affliction. The second and third text messages were LOL moment for me.
I am not very fond of the first Van Houten face to face encounter though. Utterly annoying scene. I hated this character during that scene. But of course, I also thought about why he acted the way he did. Was there an underlying cause? Was he wounded inside? Or maybe, he’s just a plain douchebag? Well, you’ll know more when you read the book, of course. :)
I’m sure this book has touched a lot of hearts out there. And as you can see, this includes me. It brought out a lot of emotions – sometimes, too many at the same time. I didn’t even know that it was possible.
I kinda suspected how the book will end. Still, I was surprised, deeply saddened, and touched all at the same time while reading that part. It left me thinking, making my own conclusions on what will happen next. I actually love how the book ended. Yes, I think you will shed a tear after reading it (in my case, I was crying - a lot) not because of Hazel (okay, yes, a part of it) but because you will somehow understand what it must feel like falling in love with a ‘grenade’. That when it exploded, still, you like the fact that you chose to love that ‘grenade’. You still like your choice. And still (hopefully) pick up the pieces of what’s left of you. You will somehow have a grasp of Hazel's 'reality'. And that alone (realizing what this character must have felt) is just purely wonderful. Again, that's one great writing.
I so love this book!
Oh, by the way, I just saw the official trailer of the book. Yes, the book’s been turned into a movie. Very excited to see it. I know, I shouldn’t get too excited because you know how it is when a book’s turned into a movie. But this trailer is just so good. Must be a good movie. Anyway, here’s the trailer. Enjoy!

I've seen this book everywhere, but have yet to pick it up myself. The general consensus seems to be that you need a box of tissues next to you as you read this book, but in a good way :). I'll have to quit stalling and just get to reading! Thanks for sharing :)
